Cyclist Awarded Record Compensation

A professional cyclist who suffered severe head injuries in a road traffic accident has been awarded the largest compensation award ever made in the UK. Manny Helmot had previously ridden in the Commonwealth Games prior to the accident which happened in 1998.
He has been awarded £14 million, the largest compensation payout ever made in the UK.
He was previously awarded a compensation figure of £9 million, which was increased to £14 million on appeal.
His mother and partner have been forced to give up work to provide round the clock care to look after him.
