Proposed Ban on Referral Fees Branded a Populist Move

A proposed ban on personal injury referral fees has been branded a 'populist move which will only serve to drive them back underground' by APIL (the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers).
The association challenged comments in The Times by AXA UK chief executive Paul Evans, and said that a sensible, rational debate was needed, not 'myth and insurance industry hype'.
The response, written to the Times Editor by APIL chief executive Deborah Evans, went on to say, "The so-called 'compensation culture' which Mr Evans claims has been allowed to proliferate in the UK has in fact recently been dismissed as a myth in two major Government reviews of health and safety."
"No-one can deny that motor premiums have increased in recent years, but it is disingenuous for the insurance industry to blame everyone but itself".
